An alpine ski racing program that refines the skills and techniques of 12 to 14 year old athletes. This program is designed to continue to improve basic skiing fundamentals through free skiing, drills, and gate training. Prior racing experience is not required to participate with this group, but strong skiing skills are. While there is a substantial amount of free skiing, this is a race oriented program. U14s will train slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super G disciplines. VARA establishes a schedule of six inter-club races throughout Northern Vermont and athlete results are ranked with the top racers advancing to the Vermont State and other regional competitions. Typical equipment needs for this age group include a helmet, GS suit, SL gate protection and correctly sized SL and GS skis; back protection is encouraged. VARA and USSA licenses are required.
U14s meet Saturdays and Sundays as well as Friday afternoons from late early December to late March. Additional training is available during the Christmas and February school vacation weeks. The Academy and Tutorial programs are offered for this age group beginning in sixth grade.
Participation in this program requires VARA & USSA Competitor Memberships.
The first day of all Junior Programs is Saturday, December 3, 2022.
Tutorial and Friday Programs begin Tuesday, December 6 and Friday, December 9, respectively.
